The National Adoption Coalition of South Africa (NAC) was established on March 16, 2011, to enhance awareness and understanding of adoption, foster partnerships within the adoption community, and advocate for key legislation, including the Children’s Act of 2010. To date, NAC has successfully engaged in national campaigns, developed a website and call center, and established provincial coalitions. Key leadership roles include Chairperson, Deputy Chair, Secretary, and Financial Manager, all focused on improving adoption practices and supporting children’s best interests.

THE NATIONAL ADOPTION COALITION OF SA • The National Adoption Coalition of SA was formed on the 16th March 2011, with the aim of: • Promoting and building awareness and understanding of adoption. • Building partnerships and collaboration across the adoption community. • Sharing best practice and build capacity (training & development). • Lobbying government & regulators on behalf of the adoption community around key legislation such as the Children’s Act of 2010. • Developing a code of conduct, and best practice guidelines, that serve the best interests of the child, in the process of adoption.
ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE • Represent the adoption community and a mouth piece for adoption on a national and provincial level • Branding and marketing of adoption • AVSA campaign in 2011 valued at 2 million rand • 2012/13 campaign up-close and personal running • Website and call centre • Partnership at national and provincial levels with DSD • Representation regarding legislation and policy • Community engagement programme • Provincial road shows and coalitions • Constitution and formalization
