  4. Our new textbook is Descubre1 and is a year course.

  5. Be ready to bring your ID on Monday or Tuesday Aug 18th or 19th . We will be getting our textbooks. If you forget it, you will have to get it on your own time.

  6. Spanish Notebook • Students need to keep a spiral notebook or a section using loose leaf paper in their notebook for this class and it will be used for: • New vocabulary • Grammar concepts • Must be in Cornell notes style.

  7. Notebook • Your notebook can be a spiral notebook for Spanish only notes. • Or a section of your 3 ring binder with a divider titled Spanish notebook using loose leaf paper if fine also.l • You must take notes today on the syllabus. This will be pg 1. of your notebook.

  9. Notebook • You will create a table of contents as the first page. • Title it “Table of Contents” first page • #1 Syllabus, paste as your second page • #2 Foreign Language Standards page

  10. Syllabus • The Syllabus contains the • Rules and Course Expectations. • Paste your Syllabus page or insert in your notebook section after your table of contents Turn in your parent signature form. I will check signatures for an assignment grade.

  11. Foreign Language Department Course Guidelines and Expectations • Students are expected to: • Attend class daily and on time. • Bring their Spanish notebook and all prepared assignments to class EVERY day. • Get a class textbook only if you can’t see the board.

Course Guidelines and Expectations, cont. • Write down daily and weekly homework, assignments, quizzes and • tests dates in your agenda and planner. • If absent it is your RESPONSIBILITYto make up any missed work and come and see me when to make it up. • You need to check the Agenda for missed assignments and look in the brown dividers on table for handouts, if any.

  13. Course Guidelines and Expectations, cont. • Make up work when absent according to • district policy (two days per day absent) • Make up missed tests/quizzes due to an • excused absence within one week. Make an appointment to see me afterschool.

  14. Foreign Language Department Policies • Late work will notbe accepted unless it is due to an excused absence. • NO electronic devices in class (IPods, MP3 Players, Cell phones, etc.)- • THEY WILL BE CONFISCATED AND A PARENT NEEDS TO PICK UP!!

  15. Foreign Language Department Policies, cont. • All major assessments (chapter, unit and final exams) are standardized throughout the department

  16. Class/School wide Discipline Policies . • Be on time • Come prepared • Respect others • Participate • Cell phones or any Music devices turned off or will be confiscated by a supervisor.

  17. Class/School wide Discipline Procedures . Warning/a talk with teacher/documented on discipline chart on Aeries. Phone call to parent. Go to counseling or administration. Set up a parent conference. Disruptions, disrespecting others , fights, weapons, drugs, sexual harassment immediately go to administration escorted by a supervisor.

  18. Class Procedures . Daily warm-ups and homework or classwork assignments will be stamped by me and all work turned in on Fridays on the top baskets by period with Agenda stapled on top.

  19. Class Procedures . 2. All graded work will be in white shelf divider, do not turn in ungraded work there.

  20. Class Procedures . 3. Any handouts, worksheets, packets, letters, copies of PPTs will be in the brown dividers.

  21. Class Procedures . 4. When needing to use the restroom or nurse office you need to get a pass from me and sign out on pad by door on table with name, per, time.

  22. Class Procedures . 5.All passes to clear tardies and absences, grade checks, or other notes place on my desk on the beige file holder .

  23. Class Procedures . 6. Bring your class textbook if you can’t see the board. I will have the textbook pages up on the smart board when needed but if you can’t see it bring your own textbook to class everyday.

  24. Class Procedures . Come in quietly and be ready with paper, pencil, homework materials, and notebook. Sharpen pencils or check your mechanical pencils are ready. When bell rings start working on warm-up you may use text or notebook to help you with warm-ups. Wait to be stamped for credit and to correct your answers. If you cause any interruptions during class by not following these procedures, it will be noted and disciplinary action will be taken.

Review • This power point will be available for review on my webpage at the West Valley site, if you would like to add any further notes to your notebook page . • You will receive a copy of the classroom syllabus which will be page #1 after the table of contents. I will need back pg 2 of the syllabus signed by your parents and you by Friday for credit.

  27. Grading Policy 1. Assessments- Tests, Quizzes, Projects, Dialogues, etc.- 40% 2. Classwork, Homework, Notebook Checks- 50% 3. Participation Points- 10%

  28. Grading Policy, cont. • Quizzes/Tests • Part of your homework is to study new vocabulary for matching quizzes, grammar rules using textbook and notes to reinforce what you learned in class. • Also you can go to www.Vhlcentral.comto study vocab Flashcards.

  29. Grading Policy, cont. • Classwork/Homework • All classwork that is not completed will be homework. • You will have the option of completing your homework on paper or use the online activities for instant correcting, make a copy to turn in. • Go to : www.Vhlcentral.comto complete homework.

  30. Grading Policy, cont. • In order to view your current • grade, refer to Aeries • Go to West Valley Website and go to Aeries Link. • Grades will also be posted on the door approximately every 6 weeks.

  31. Obtaining full credit • Students will bring their daily prepared assignments to class. • My TA’s or I will stamp their work. • You will correct your work and turn in all work on Fridays. • If you are late in completing assignments you will receive ½ credit on next day only.

  32. Spanish Speakers Test. • If you are a Spanish speaker and would like to take the Spanish Speakers test to move on to Spanish 2, let me know ASAP. • There are different levels of Spanish speakers. The test will determine if you are ready.

  37. Tutoring and full credit • Students may obtain full credit on work they don’t understand by coming to see me for afterschool tutoring. • You need to let me know when you are coming.
