Jesus set the bar very high • “You have heard that it was said… but I say to you…”(Matt. 5:22,28,32,34,44) • “You shall be perfect just as your Father in heaven is perfect”(Matt. 5:48) • “be holy for I am holy…”(1 Pet. 1:16) • “…partakers of the divine nature…”(2 Pet. 1:3) Because of negative reactions, sometimes Christians choose to lower the bar

Setting the Bar • Pursue, meditate on pure things whatever things are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy -- meditate on these things.   19. The standard is not simply to avoid immoral actions. The Standard is not simply to avoid immoral thoughts. We are commanded to pursue and think holy/pure things.

  27. “What does this song/book/movie have that is worthy of God’s praise, noble, pure?” Purity Lust “How much sex is too much sex?”

  28. Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (2 Tim 2:22) Purity Lust How far can I go until I sin?
