  5. Prevalence • 8% in male • .5% in female • Pingelapese islands = 10 % total color blindness

  6. Diagnosis • Eye clinics • Uses series of pictures • Pictures = colored spots •  = 74

  7. Treatments • Generally no treatments • Colored lenses and contacts might help

  8. Symptoms • Difficulty in telling apart red/green, red/blue, blue/green

  9. Everyday life • Normal • Until reading red/green signs or traffic lights

  12. Chances of cures • Slim to no chance of there being cures. • Currently NO cures exist

  13. Proteins • Proteins affected = OPN1LW and OPN1MW. • These cause red/green color defects. • Leads to absences of L or M cones in the eyes.
