ADOPTION OF REGIONAL DIFFERENTIATED STRATEGY FOR ENHANCEMENT OF CROP PRODUCTION AND PRODUCTIVITY • To escape from Rodent upsurge early maturing varieties of cereal crops will be • taken up. • Out of 8 administrative districts only 2 administrative districts are earmarked for • cultivation of cereal crops wherein the incidence of bamboo flowering followed by • Rodent infestation are insignificant. • A considerable area will be covered under spices like Ginger and Turmeric • including Jathropha and Patcholli in order to escape from large scale Rodent • infestation. Crops diversification has given top most priority. • 4. For enhancement of crop production and productivity, mission mode approach • will be encouraged and all resources from plan fund and macro management mode • of agriculture will be converged. • Oil Palm cultivation has been taken up by the private companies like Godrej Agrovet • and Food, Fats and Fertilizers Ltd on contract farming for permanent settlement of • Jhumia families with high profitability. Mizoram Government put Organic Farming on the state agenda

  30. ASSESMENT OF EXISTING EXTENSION NETWORK – CAPACITY TO DELIVER TECHNOLOGIES IN THE FIELD, • Identified Nodal Officer Director of Agriculture • Identified ATMA District 4Nos (viz. Aizawl , Kolasib, Lunglei • Champhai.) • Formation of Committee i. Inter Department Working Group • and Notification ii. ATMA Governing Body • iii. ATMA Management Committee. • Mizoram Agricultural Management and Extension Training Society.(SAMETI) • have been registered under Society Act on 6.12.2005 bearing No.SR/MZ-113 • of 2005-06. • One day orientation workshop, one week Masters ‘Trainers Training’, core team and agriculture Eco-Survey team were conducted – on , 12-17.9.2005and 22.9.2005, • 14 Nos of blocks and its Block Technical Team with Farmer Adivisory Committee have • been formed. • Rs. 49.50 lakhs and Rs. 33.80 lakhs have been released during 2005-06 and 2006 -07 respectively.

FOCUS ON INPUTS AVAILABLILTY AND ITS DISTRIBUTION • Quality Seeds of High Yielding Varieties of crops will be made available through Seed Village, NSC, NAFED, SFC and Private Firms. • Fertilizers requirement will be met by strengthening outlets in each districts . • The Bio-Fertilizers Production Unit will be strengthen to meet the requirement of the state. • 24 Nos of Vermiculture Hatchery Units will be established to strengthen production of Vermi-Compost. • State Biological Control Laboratory will be strengthen to produce different parasites, Biotic Agents for pest management. 10,000 Trichogama cards will be release. • To facilitate Farm Mechanization, On Farm Development such as land reshaping and leveling works will be executed. • Subsidy on tractors, Power Tillers, Farm Implements, Post Harvest machineries for value addition will be extended to the farmers.

Action Points for consideration • Establishment of Agency for reporting of Agriculture Statistics (EARAS) Under this component North Eastern states like Nagaland Sikkim Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura only included. For submission of accurate Official advance and final estimates, Mizoram also may be included under this programme. • Uniform level of subsidy of Power Tillers under various schemes Subsidy provided for power tiller under Technology Mission for NE Is 50% whereas subsidy provided under mechanizations under Macro Management work plan is 25%. Hence, uniform rate of subsidy may be restored for smooth implementation of the programme • Requirement of Infrastructures for border trade with Myanmar Setting up of a Plant Quarantine station at Zokhawthar(Mizoram) is recently reviewed on spot in presence of Dr. PP Sinha (Entomology,Regional Plant Quarantine Station, Kolkata and it has observed that construction of staff quarters and fumigation chamber are imperative for smooth implementation of border trade. Posting of trained officers and purchase of Lab equiptments etc has already been done. Hence necessary funds for construction of residential buildings including fumigation chamber may kindly be provided on priorty basis.
