The Weather Underground and Radical Movements: Political Violence in America (1969-1981)
Between 1969 and 1981, various radical left-wing groups like the Weather Underground Organization (WUO), Black Liberation Army (BLA), and Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) emerged, employing violence as a tactic to push for social and political change. They sought to highlight the injustices of the Vietnam War and systemic racism. The WUO, known for its bombings of government and corporate targets, was founded by members of the less-violent Students for a Democratic Society. As federal crackdowns intensified, these groups faced disbandment, but their impact on American society and politics remained significant.
