Measuring Up Today’s Goals: • To learn about the benefits of indoor plumbing and safe drinking water. • To understand the importance of thinking about how we use water. • To learn simple ways we can conserve water.
Measuring Up • You need to drink about 2/3 of a gallonof water each day to stay healthy.
Measuring Up • The average family will use about 150 gallons of water per day for cooking, cleaning, showering, and other things.
Measuring Up WOW! That’s a lot of wasted water! • You waste about 2 gallons (or 16 cups) of water every time you leave the faucet on while you brush your teeth!
Measuring Up • It only takes about ¼ of a gallon (or 2 cups) of water if you only turn the faucet on to rinse out your mouth and toothbrush.
Measuring Up • Can you think of other ways you could conserve water?
Measuring Up • A water utility uses a water treatment plant to make water safe for drinking.
Measuring Up • Without proper treatment, most water would be contaminated.
Measuring Up • What would you do if McCreary County Water District didn’t treat the water for you? • How would you get water?
