  2. Assistance with Workers Compensation Claims • A Union Officer will assist you with all your Workers Comp Claims. • A Union Officer will assist your family if you are unable to file your Claim. • You will have a attorney assist you if needed at any Workers Comp Hearings.

  3. Assistance With Grievances • A union officer will give you advice and guide you through the paperwork. • A union officer will accompany you to your grievance hearing(s). • You will have access to the union attorney at no cost to assist you should you need it.

  4. Access to Local 68 Attorney You will have one hour free legal advice yearly with the locals Attorney.

  5. The General Assembly • Each January through March we have a union officer in Richmond to track and lobby legislation that will benefit our members. (Heart lung, cancer bills, etc.). • This is also done in Washington DC by the IAFF and union members. • Representatives of local 68 also lobby city council and the city manager for improvements to our benefits.

  7. Membership Includes • Membership to the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters. Over 5000 members • International Association of Fire Fighters with 260,000 members. • AFL-CIO • Central Labor Council

  8. Other Benefits • The local provides each member with a “hazardous exposure book” which you can keep track of any exposure to hazardous fumes, or blood borne pathogens. A copy is also kept in a database at the local. • A local 68 members benefit book. • Yearly Shift Calendar

  9. Other Benefits • A Heat Sheet Newsletter with monthly union updates. • The International fire fighter 6 times a year from the IAFF. • A reduced rental rate to rent the union hall for any type of party.

  10. Recreational Events • Kid’s Christmas party • Golf Tournaments • 2 softball teams to the MDA softball tournament in Maryland each year • Retirees annual party • Many other parties through out the year

  11. Other Local 68 Projects • The MDA fill the boot for jerry’s kids, in 2010 raised over $90,000.00. • A week long MDA camp in Wakefield Va. • The central Va. Burn camp for one week in Charlottesville, Va. • Occasional spousal seminars so your family members can keep up with changes to your benefits.

  12. How to Join • Fill out an Application form with a payment of $85.00 which includes a $50.00 initiation fee and one month dues ($35.00) in advance. Your dues will be $35.00 each month thereafter which is 1% of a starting Fire Fighters Pay. • Send it to 5691 E. Va. Beach Blvd or hand it to a Union Officer.

IAFF $11.59 per member VPFF $3.82 with a $1 per member surcharge every January AFL-CIO $2.89 Central Labor Council $1.25 for a total of $19.55 per member Monthly Bills $1,000 dollars a month for Attorney retainer Gas Bill $160 Electric Bill $187 Cox Cable $131 HRUBS (water, sewer and trash) $127.63 NGM Insurance for building $109.50 and $400 a quarter for accountant WHERE DO MY UNION DUES GO???????????
