  11. SAT versus ACT • Bottom line: The difference between the two exams is that the SAT is a slower, trickier test. The ACT is a faster, more straight-forward test. The ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. The SAT is more of an aptitude test, testing reasoning and verbal abilities. Statistically, students score very similarly on both tests. • Structure: ACT has 4 sections (Math, Reading, English, and Science). Takes 3 hours and 30min. SAT has three sections (Math, Reading, and Writing). Takes 3 hours and 45 minutes. • Colleges accept either the SAT or the ACT.

  12. How, when, & Where, Do we start Step-by-step plan • Determine which test(s) your student will take. • Pick test date(s): SAT – March 12th, May 7th, June 4th; ACT – Feb. 12th, April 9th, June 11th • Decide how your student will prepare. • Register your student for the test. SAT is done on collegeboard.com, ACT is done on act.org • Ensure that test prep moves to the top of the priority list for the duration of the program.
