  2. Uddevalla • is situated on the Swedish West Coast in the province of Bohuslän between Gothenburg and Oslo • has a history within the shipyard industry • has today aliving port and businesses within marine technology • has strong ambitions to become a maritime centre

Centre of Higher Education in Bohuslän – HCB • started in 2007 • is an educational & developing centre • offers post-secondary education • has four profile areas; maritime,retail, tourism and entrepreneurship • has about 500 students in- higher vocational education – HVE (Yh) - first-cycle courses and study programmes (högskoleutbildning på grundnivå)

  5. Higher Vocational Education (HVE) is a post-secondary form of education designed to match the demand for competences in the labour market.

  6. The level of HVE is between Secondary Education and First-cycle Education at the University

Higher Vocational Education – HVE • is a post-secondary form of education combining theoretical studies with a strong practical approach embedded in the workplace. • are tailormade educations in close collaboration with worklife • means that tuition is free of charge and many students are eligible for financial aid from the Swedish National Board for Student Aid (CSN). • are organised by public aswell as private educational organisers - approved and controlled regularily • could lead to a HVE degree (at least 1 year) or aqualified HVE degree (at least 2 years)

  8. Higher Vocational Education – HVE means • educationsthat matches the realdemand for competences in the labour market. Contents and specialisations varies. New educations starts and old are beeing closed down as the needs on the labour market are changing. • Theory + Practice = Employment The HVE-educations are combining theory and practice - workplace training forms an integral part of the programmes. Practical placements - LIA (Lärande I Arbete) give the students experience from worklife and contacts while studying. • 8 out of 10 are employedCompleting a programme leads to employment. More than 8 out of 10 are either employed or running their own business within six months of graduation (2010 Follow-up Report).
