Key People/Event Geofer Mohamed EL-Nimer - The president of Sudan - He convinced the people of Sudan change the power over to him being in power SPLA - Sudanese people's liberation army -The SPLA was formed as rebellion army against the Sharia Law and the Sudan Government -Sharia law: the code of law derived from Koran and from the teachings and examples of Muhammad. Under the Sharia law there is no segregation between the church and state. - People were crucified for converting to another religion because of the Sharia Law

Militia- a body of citizen soldiers as distinguished from professional soldiers - The US describes Darfur killings as 'genocide'. The UN says Sudan has failed to disarm pro-government militias but do not accept the term 'genocide'. - Two rebel groups in the Western region of Darfur rise up against what they believe to be government neglect of the arid region. The groups arm Arab militia against civilians. Sudanese army fights rebels.
