Engage in exciting LEGO NXT challenges where teams design, build, program, debug, and test mobile robots to successfully perform a range of football-related tasks. From dribbling a ball through cones and executing penalty kicks to completing laps around a course, these challenges promote creativity and technical skills. Each robot must operate independently, following strict rules, including distance limitations and avoiding human contact. Who will build the best robot to conquer these dynamic and fun challenges?

  1. LEGO NXT Challenges Moving Beyond

  2. Ronaldinho Challenge • Design Brief:Teams design, build, program, debug, and test a mobile robot that will “dribble” a ball through 4 cones in both directions. The cones will be 30cm apart. Teams will also design their playing field. • Rules: Robot must begin behind the start line located 30cm from the first turn. The robot must weave through each consecutive cone without making contact. Any human contact with the robot once it has left the start area voids the trial. The robot must “dribble” the ball through the course as designed. The robot must turn itself off after crossing the finish line. Finish Start

  3. Tim Howard Challenge • Design Brief:Teams design, build, program, debug, and test a robot that will “kick” a ball as far as it can. Robots will test their kicking ability on a carpeted floor. • Rules: Robot can travel no more than 30cm before striking the ball. The distance is marked from where the ball finish rolling or goes out-of-bounds, whichever comes first. Any human contact with the robot or ball once it has been “kicked” voids the trial. The robot must turn itself off after “kicking” the ball.

  4. Beckham Challenge • Design Brief:Penalty kick Teams design, build, program, debug, and test a mobile robot that will “shoot” a ball into 4 quadrants of a goal. The cones will be 30cm apart. Teams will also design their playing field. • Rules: Robot can travel no more than 30cm. Any human contact with the robot or ball once it has been “kicked” voids the trial. The robot must turn itself off after “shoot” the ball.

  5. Defense/Goalie Challenge • Design Brief:Teams design, build, program, debug, and test a robot that will “kick” a ball as far as it can. Robots will test their kicking ability on a carpeted floor. • Rules: Robot can travel no more than 12”. Any human contact with the robot or ball once it has been “kicked” voids the trial. The robot must turn itself off after “kicking” the ball.

  6. Robo500 Challenge • Design Brief:Roboticists must design, build, program, debug, and test a mobile robot that will complete 5 laps around a pre-determined course set up by the camp staff. The robot must start with an optisensor and stop at the end of the 5th lap. • Rules: Robot must begin behind the start line. Any human contact with the robot once it has left the start area voids the trial. The robot must complete 5 laps around the track. The robot must turn itself off after completing the five laps.
