First, give a verbal warning that he/she is out of line. If this proves ineffective, the camper may be given a choice of either cooperating or sitting on the sideline during the activity. As a last resort, call for the assistance of the Camp Director. Under no circumstances shall a child be deprived of food, isolated or subjected to corporal punishment or abusive physical exercise as a means of punishment either by staff or by another camper.

  8. DAILY HEALTH SURVEILLANCE For the health benefit of all campers and staff, all counselors are responsible for monitoring for potential health problems. This requires surveillance throughout the day, but each counselor is specifically responsible for checking the campers initially assigned to him/her at the beginning of each day. Any child or staff member suspected of having a communicable disease shall be taken to the pro's office away from others. From the file of applications, his/her parent/guardian shall be notified and/or the camp medical contact shall be consulted. Counselors will also be on the lookout for any signs of abuse or physical injury.

  9. BASIC PRINCIPLES of FIRST AID When an accident occurs, the first reaction is often decisive; the life or death of the victim and the gravity of the consequences of the accident often depend on the speed with which first aid is administered and on the correct choice of action. If you witness an accident or dangerous occurrence (fire, flood, medical emergency, etc.), you must immediately: Protect the victim, people in the vicinity and yourself Alert Emergency Services (911) Help the victim Safeguard the evidence

  10. BASIC PRINCIPLES of FIRST AID PROTECT the victim, the people in the vicinity and yourself. It is important to eliminate the immediate dangers at the site of the accident to avoid further casualties or damage.

  11. BASIC PRINCIPLES of FIRST AID ALERT the Emergency Services (911)(or make sure that they have been alerted) When? As soon as possible, but not until you have made a quick appraisal of the situation and the dangers. Who? 911 will send out the appropriate help as soon as they receive the call. How? Preferably by using a land line to make it easier to locate the origin of the call: dial 911 from any stationary or mobile telephone. Informations to be given... Origin of the call; Nature of the incident (fire, road accident, medical emergency,...); Location of the incident; Number of casualties and description of their visible injuries; Initial action taken and aid administered.

  12. BASIC PRINCIPLES of FIRST AID HELP the victimThe principles of first aid are too numerous and too varied to be listed here but it should be stressed that injured persons must never be moved without good reason. Several members of the camp staff have followed an advanced first-aid training course. They may be called upon to help. It is therefore important to know the identity of the first-aiders in the vicinity of your workplace.

  13. BASIC PRINCIPLES of FIRST AID SAFEGUARD the evidenceOnce any victims have been taken care of and the immediate dangers dealt with, it is important that everything else remain untouched until the on-site investigation has been completed.

  14. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES Missing Camper If anyone is suspected missing follow these steps: Counselors will question group for information. One counselor will leave his/her group in care of another counselor in order to notify Director. If necessary, entire camp will assemble in driveway circle for further inquiries. 15. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES Missing Swimmer EMERGENCY SIGNAL: Continuous Whistle Attending Counselors instruct all swimmers to exit water and sit on wooden decks. Keep all Campers QUIET. Lifeguards walk perimeter of pool looking for anyone left in or under the water. If anyone is in distress: Lifeguard performs rescue procedure One counselor stays with life guard All others escort rest of camp out of pool area

  16. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES Fire / Emergency EMERGENCY SIGNAL: Continuous Whistle Counselors bring all groups to parking lot circle area. Keep in groups standing or sitting.
