  1. Preparing GEO600 for Gravitational Wave astronomy(A status report) Martin Hewitson, AEI Hannover for GEO600

  2. Talk overview • Sensitivity of GEO600 • Calibration update • Data quality indicators and information GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  3. GEO600 optical layout 600m Attenuated to 2W interferometer with dual recycling 1W mode cleaner 12W laser 1% Transmission detector GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  4. HPD lock + New MI+SR servo SR bench scattering Sensitivity progress (highlights) Typical S3 GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  5. Target sensitivity GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  6. Noise projections - HP Current HP ESD Feedback SR Feedback PDO Amp noise Shot+detection Uncorr sum GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  7. Calibration of GEO600 • Time-domain calibration method • Optimisation routine is used to quasi-continuously estimate parameters of optical response • Update rate is 1Hz • Output is LSC-standard h(t) frame files GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  8. Calibration procedure • Correct for MI loop and Optical transfer function(s) x = GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  9. optical On-line optical TF measurements CAL P and Q actuator GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  10. Calibration progress • On-line calibration of both output quadratures • HP and HQ • Work on optimal combination is underway • Estimation of optical parameters in real-time in control room • On-line calibration leads to overnight runs GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  11. HQ sensitivity progress GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  12. Combining HP(t) and HQ(t) • Idea is that • So we can form • Do this in the time-domain to fit in with the current calibration method HP(t) = s(t) + np(t) HQ(t) = s(t) + nq(t) HP’ = (HP+HQ)/2 HQ’ = (HP-HQ)/2 GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  13. Combining HP and HQ - result • HQ’ contains almost no signal compared to HP’ • Where noise behaves like cal lines, we have apparent displacement • Useful diagnostic for noise hunting (?) GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  14. Introducing GEO Summary Pages • A collection of automatically generated web page reports about GEO data quality • To disseminate info about the growing amount of science data • To aid in commissioning by having standard measurements to compare day by day. • To learn about results of various analysis tools http://www.geo600.uni-hannover.de/georeports/ GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  15. Report list Click for details GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  16. Details page • Lock list • Sensitivity overview • Spectra, BLRMS, Inspiral range • Data quality • Quality channel, calibration parameters • Line catalogues • Lines, harmonics, sidebands • Glitch rate • Time-frequency plots, histograms GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  17. What’s coming up • Injected power increase (x2 or more) • Main high-power diode in vacuum • New office buildings and toilets • S4 • Continue overnight and weekend runs • Increase power-recycling factor • Noise hunting and working towards design sensitivity GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  18. The End GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004

  19. Noise projections - HQ Current HP ESD Feedback SR Feedback PDO Amp noise Shot+detection Uncorr sum GWDAW 9, Annecy 2004
