A medical school should be a component of a university offering other graduate and professional degree programs that contribute to the academic environment of the medical school. • There should be regular and formal review of all graduate and professional programs in which medical school faculty participate, to foster adherence to high standards of quality in education, research, and scholarship, and to facilitate the progress and achievement of the trainees.

  4. IS-12-A. Medical students should learn in clinical environments where graduate and continuing medical education programs are present. [standard adopted March 2003; to take effect July 2004]

The graduate and continuing medical education programs at training sites where medical students are located should be accredited by the appropriate accrediting bodies.
