What is the GLSS? • Made up of legally qualified civil servants • Lawyers provide advice to the Scottish Government on various topics • 2 main work areas: advisory and legislative work, and litigation services • But some lawyers work in policy roles or go out on secondment to other organisations (such as the Office of the Advocate General for Scotland) • Most GLSS lawyers retain Practising Certificates and some exercise rights of audience before the Courts

My career path • Studied at Universities of Glasgow and Melbourne • 1 year working for RBS • Returned to study for the Diploma - 2005 • GLSS Traineeship • Qualified in 2008 • Worked in the Office of the Advocate General for Scotland from 2006 – 2012 • 2013 – joined Scottish Government Criminal Justice team.
