Grad Requirements • ENGLISH | 4 years/4 credits • MATHEMATICS | 3 years/3 credits • SCIENCE | 3 years/3 credits (Biology + Chemistry and/or Physics = 3 credits) • SOCIAL STUDIES | 4 years/4 credits • PHY ED | 2 semesters/1 credit • HEALTH | 1 semester/.5 credit • VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS • | 2 semesters/1 credit Total of 24 credits to graduate + Take MCA GRAD tests & ACT on April 23, 2014: Writing 9| Reading 10 | Math 11 | ACT 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  3. Minimum College Requirements • Riverland Community College, RCTC • ENGLISH | 4 years • MATH | 3 years • SCIENCE | 3 years • SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY | 3 years • WORLD LANGUAGE | 2 years of same World Language not required but could still help with future employment • Graduate from High School or GED • ACT or SAT test not required. ACT recommended if transferring to a university or going into selective program like Health Science. 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  4. Minimum College Requirements • Seven State Universities who are part of MSCU • Bemidji State, Metropolitan State, Minnesota State University, St. Cloud State University, Winona State • ENGLISH | 4 years • MATH | 3 years (recommend 4 years) • SCIENCE | 3 years • SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY | 3 years • WORLD LANGUAGE | 2 years of same World Language • Top 50% of class, Average GPA 3.3 “Selective” • ACT or SAT test • Composite of 21 or higher on ACT 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  5. Minimum College Requirements • University of Minnesota • ENGLISH | 4 years • MATH | 4 years • SCIENCE | 4 years (Biology, Chemistry & Physics + 1 more) • SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY | 3 years • WORLD LANGUAGE | (2 years of same World Language) • Involved in Extra Curricular Leadership Opportunities • Carlson School of Business, Science field or Engineering need Calculus as 4th year of math. • Top 10%-25% of class, Average GPA 3.75 “Competitive” • ACT or SAT test • Composite of 27 or higher on ACT 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  6. Minimum College Requirements • Private Colleges • GustavusAdolphus, St. Olaf, Carleton, Luther College • ENGLISH | 4 years • MATH | 3 years (4 years recommended) • SCIENCE | 3 years (4 years recommended) • SOCIAL STUDIES/HISTORY | 3 years (4 years rec) • WORLD LANGUAGE | Individual College Recommendation(usually 3-4 years of same World Language) • Fine Arts | 2 years recommended • Extra curricular activities with leadership positions • Top 10% of class with GPA 3.6 or higher “Selective/Competitive” • ACT or SAT test • Composite of 27-31 or higher on ACT 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  7. Concurrent Classes with Riverland CC • To qualify for RCC classes your Senior year: • Seniors |Must be in the top 1/2 of your class • (or score in the top 50% on a Nationally, Norm-referenced test) • Strong Grades • Take the Accuplacer Test • AHS offers 8 RCC college classes & 8 AP Classes • Class rank in the fall of your Junior year will determine your eligibility. 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

Electives • Consider Your Post High School plans… • What electives will help me the most in my future course of study or work? • Is there an area of study I am interested in pursuing, but don’t know a lot about it?   15. Study Halls • If you currently struggle in your classes and/or are earning grades in the C-D range, or you have a lot of after school commitments please consider… • Taking a study hall. This built-in study time each day will allow you to stay on top of your homework. • Take time to develop good study habits. • No Credit will be earned for a study hall. 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  16. Student Aide • Eligibility: Grade 12 Only • Senior students must have 19 credits minimum to apply. • Students can sign up for one period each semester. • Student Aide Contract (available from teachers) needs to be signed by teacher, counselor, and administration. 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  17. Pass/Fail Option • Seniors may use for one ELECTIVE course per semester. • Once Pass/Fail option has been declared, it will remain in effect for the duration of the course. • Application is necessary. • P or F will remain on permanent transcript. A “P” for the course will not effect the GPA. An “F” for the course will be calculated into the GPA. • 60% must be achieved in order to earn a Pass. 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  18. Mentorship/OJT • Eligibility: Grade 12 • Credit: .5 / semester • Course Description: • Students will spend 35 hours throughout the semester with a mentor in their chosen career field. This class offers you a hands on experience. 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  19. Independent Study • Independent Study is an elective credit that cannot replace a required course or a course currently offered by AHS. • Eligibility: Grade 12 Only • Senior students must have 19 credits minimum to apply. • Students can sign up for one period each semester. • Independent Study Contract (available in Counseling Department) needs to be approved by teacher, and administration. 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

They can help you decide if a class is a good choice for you. • Discuss with your family and older siblings. • See your counselor or assistant principal with questions. • What you chose will be what you keep. Your High School Transcript • You have access to a copy of your unofficial transcript through your portal account. • Each class passed is worth ½ credit • 7 classes = 3 ½ credits each semester • It is your responsibility to make sure that you have met all of your graduation requirements for graduation.   28. What if I fail a required course? • You are given an excellent opportunity to pass your classes at AHS. Summer School and Credit Recovery is your ONLY option for recovering credit lost from failureof a required course. There are two (2) sessions of summer school. 12 days in length. 8:00 – 1:00. Each session is worth ½ (.5)credit. Credit Recovery that runs during the school year has three sessions, one in the fall, one in the winter and one in the spring. E2020 classes run Monday-Thursdays from 3:45-5:45 pm. 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

What if I fail a required course? • To be considered on-track to graduate, a 12th grader next year, you will need to complete a minimum of 17 credits by next fall. • To be eligible for sports 18 credits need to be completed! • Make your Senior year a great one! 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

  31. Athletics at AHS • Austin High School offers the following competitive opportunities: 2015 We are a member of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) and the Big 9 Conference. To be eligible to participate in a sport, students must comply with MSHSL as well as specific District rules. Class of Empowering all learners for life!

Eligibility for Athletics AHS • In order to be eligible for sports, you must have accumulated the following credits: • Grade 9: End of 1st semester= 3 credits • Grade 10: Start of year= 6 credits/End of 1st semester=9 credits • Grade 11: Start of year= 12 credits/End of 1st semester= 15 credits • Grade 12: Start of year= 18 credits/End of 1st semester= 21 credits 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

NCAA Division I/II Eligibility • If you are interested in participating in athletics at the college level: • Division I – 16 Core Course Rule + earn a minimum GPA in core courses + earn a qualifying ACT or SAT test score • Division II – 14 Core Course Rule + earn a minimum GPA in core courses + earn a qualifying ACT or SAT • See Course Registration Guide or your counselor for specific details or visit www.ncaa.org 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!

Attendance Policy Excused Absences Unexcused Absences • Bring note within two days Tardies • 4 Tardies turn into lunch detention • Loss of Credit – Hold on Grades • No credit in any course where the student exceeds three (3) unexcused absences or exceeds nine (9) absences within a semester. 2015 Class of Empowering all learners for life!
