  13. Micheal Jackson Micheal Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana. At age five, he joined The Jackson 5 along with his brothers and became the lead singer. After many years working with Jackson 5, he created his solo album in 1982 named Thriller. Throughout his career, he won a crucial amount of awards. In 1985, he co-wrote “We Are the World” with Lionel Richie for African charity. He put together Live Aid, one of the biggest events in rock history, to raise money for Ethiopia, Mozambique, Chad, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, and Sudan. He passed away on June 25, 2009 and left as the king of pop. Back

  14. Lionel Richie Lionel Richie was born on June 20, 1949, in Tuskegee, Alabama. He had a solo album named Lionel Richie, which was released in 1982. He co-wrote “We Are the World” with Michael Jackson as a famine relief song for Africa. After the disastrous earthquake in Haiti, Lionel Richie met with various artists to recreate “We Are the World 25 for Haiti”. The song was produced by Lionel himself, along with Jones and Wyclef Jean. Back

  15. Historical Reference The people of Haiti are suffering day by day even with so many people donating. Over 230,000,000 died due to the horrendous earthquake and are dying everyday due to low sanitary conditions. More than 10,000 people lost their homes and live in shelter zone such as Terrain Acra. In Terrain Acra there are sinks to make sure that people are sanitary, and they don’t spread diseases among each other. There is not much progress even after a hundred days; for example, there is a low amount of food for families, and people live on mud stairs due to overcrowding in shelters. Back

He wrote Black or White to bring about racial equality. Michael established the Heal to the World Foundation in 1992 to provide supplies and money for underprivileged people.   20. Historical Reference • On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti southwest of the capital Port-au-Prince. The earthquake that was six miles deep in the ground caused catastrophic damage by crumbling homes and leaving over 200,000 deaths. Aid from countries came quickly due to the massive impact on the country. Haiti is now filled with poverty, and many children are now orphans; however, Haitians still have hope. The U.N. sent forces for recovery and reconstruction. Back

  21. Historical Reference Wyclef Jean is a musician born in Haiti, but raised in America. He co-founded an organization called Yéle Haiti . A reinforcement of education, health, and community occurred due to projects. He influences the song by adding Creole, the national language in Haiti. Wyclef flew out to Haiti the day of the earthquake; afterwards, he carried bodies to the cemetery and tried to help his people as much as he could. Back

  24. Historical Reference On August 5th, 2005 Hurricane Katrina hit Mississippi and Louisiana taking over 1,000 lives and over one million homes. The Bush Administration declared $105 billion for reparations. Indonesia faced a 9.0 magnitude tsunami causing millions of people to lose their homes in over eleven countries. UNICEF sent mass supplies to provide sanitation and food for the victims. Many countries in Africa are under-developed causing unsanitary and dangerous conditions; thus, organizations are formed to help the people. Back
