  2. APASC Reorganization • Ensure system efficiency • Bring high school superintendents and Department of Education into conversations • Will report to the Joint Council of Presidents

  3. APASC Subcommittees • Enhanced committee structure • Marketing & Communication Committee • Academic & Student Affairs Committee will work with all ATFs • Data & Evaluation Committee • Technology Committee

  4. System Enhancements/Changes • Marketing will start late summer/early fall using print, electronic and social media • U.select (planning guides) will be more visible • High school portal page is being developed • New portal “channel” being developed so students can locate ATAS information from their institutional web sites • Exam Equivalency Guide developed

Policy updates • Changes to Arizona transfer admission at the universities (https://azregents.asu.edu/rrc/Policy%20Manual/2-102-Undergraduate%20Admission.pdf ) • AGEC and a cumulative GPA of 2.50 - assured admission • Associate degree and cumulative GPA of 2.00 - assured admission • AAS to BAS policy approved (http://aztransfer.com/AAS-BAS ) • Students with an AAS and specific general education courses could transfer up to 75 community college units into a BAS degree

Legislation • Shared Course Numbering (SB1186) (http://www.azleg.gov/DocumentsForBill.asp?Bill_Number=sb1186&Session_Id=93) • Shared Course Numbering has not yet been defined • Report due to legislators December 2010 with options and cost analysis • The CAO of MCCD and Assoc. VP for Academic and Student Affairs at ABOR are chairing the committee that will generate the report

Legislation (cont’d) • AP/IB (HB2725) (http://www.azleg.gov/DocumentsForBill.asp?Bill_Number=hb2725&Session_Id=93&image.x=11&image.y=3) • In consultation with the community college districts in this state, [the Arizona Board of Regents will] develop and implement common equivalencies for specific levels of achievement on advanced placement examinations and international baccalaureate examinations in order to award commensurate postsecondary academic credits at community colleges and public universities in this state.

Legislation (cont’d) • Grand Canyon Diploma (HB2731) • (http://www.azleg.gov/DocumentsForBill.asp?Bill_Number=HB2731&Session_Id=93&image.x=11&image.y=7) • Arizona school districts and charter schools can offer beginning 2012-13 school year • Student can receive as early as end of tenth grade • Can be offered to “. . . any student who demonstrates readiness for college level mathematics and English . . . and who has passing grades on a set of required core courses as determined by the State Board of Education (SBE), including the arts, history and science, and who successfully completes a course in economics.”

Getting AHEAD Initiative • $1.6M Lumina Foundation Grant over four years • Lumina Foundation’s overarching goal: by 2025 - 60% Americans have high-quality 2 or 4 year degrees or credentials * • Arizona will attempt to redesign the state’s higher education system in order to: expand capacity; serve more students at lower cost; and achieve completion and degree goals* • Initiative will engage school districts, colleges and universities and the Arizona business community *[Source: MOA PROPOSAL-RESPONSE TO CHALLENGES]

  11. Other Statewide Agreements In addition to the statewide transfer system, community colleges and universities are developing individual partnerships to complement the transfer system and facilitate the state goal of increased degree completion.
