  2. EC Lesson Plans • Why???The No Child Left Behind Act requires that all students, including those with the most significant cognitive disabilities, have access to the standard course of study at grade level. HOW DO WE PROVE THAT?? • Lenoir County Policy 3120 • Alignment with IEP Goals/NCSCOS

  3. Daily/Weekly HS can change subjects Write out goals Here or goals sheet Competency Goal 1: The learner will develop and apply enabling strategies and skills to read and write. Good lesson plan rule: It’s a good lesson plan if a sub can pick it up and follow it. Notes/Additional Info: School initiatives, reflection notes on lesson, etc

Summary Non-negotiable “Tight” • District-Wide implementation March 15th • MUST include NCSCOS/Extensions (write out competency goal) • MUST include IEP goals (abbreviate; state skill/concepts) • MUST be accessible in class for review Negotiable “Loose” • Daily/Weekly • IEP goals on LP or separate goal sheet • Allows for school initiatives, (SIOP, HOB, etc.) flexible for subject insertion

Reminders • Lesson Plans provide important documentation to support compliance with IDEA • Inclusion/Co-Teaching- Lesson Plans MUSTinclude YOUR part…Thisis the specialized instruction!!! • Use additional notes section to reflect on progress, note lessons needing reteaching, etc • Format is universal enough to allow for school initiatives; teaching style • Good Rule of Thumb: If a sub can pick up your lesson plan and teach from it, then it probably is a good plan. • You have our support in this process!!

  13. CIPP Audit Review IDEA and Article 9 of the NC state law require DPI to monitor LEA’s to ensure compliance with state and federal laws. LEA Data Profile (handout) Part of State and District goals is to keep stakeholders informed!!!! Indicators 7,11,12,13,15

When to Contact Program Compliance Specialist!! • Separate, Modified Day, or Homebound • IEP team considers change in school placement (satellite classes) • Long term suspensions • Request for additional resources • Extended School Year • Change in Placement • Receive outside evaluation • Initial Placement • IEP team considers change to alternative program • Re-evaluations with a change in placement • Exit from program • Jumping settings on LRE continuum • Return from homebound • Any time a Dec 5 is issued

Co-Teaching Professional Standards • Collaborate and document specially designed instruction with lesson plans • Active engagement in instructional practice • Do not use time for paperwork or to grade papers • Stay in the co-teaching environment from beginning to end of sessions. • Do not pull out just EC students to “work” with • Document progress on progress reports and follow the schedule for distribution
