  1. ABSTRACT ID : INTRODUCTION Clostridium difficile: -Anaerobic, gram positive bacteria, spore forming, rods. Habitat is the human colon, Infection can result if the bacteria overgrow in the intestinal tract. Two exotoxins are produced by Clostridium difficile both of which are involved in the pathogenesis of pseudomembranous colitis. Exotoxin A is an enterotoxin that causes watery diarrhea. Exotoxin B is a cytotoxin that damages the colonic mucosa and causes pseudomembranes to form. B can disaggregate action filaments in the cytoskeleton. Symptoms of infection are usually watery diarrhea and abdominal cramps, but Serious complications can result that require hospitalization and on rare occasions Cause death. Some people carry the bacteria without having symptoms. C. difficile is the most frequent cause of health-care associated diarrhea. To investigate the etiologic role of Clostridium difficile in childhood acute diarrhea, stool specimens from children with diarrhea enteric symptoms, the majority of isolates from children with diarrhea with pseudomembranous colitis, The pathogenicity of Clostridium difficile depends on the large clostridial glucosylating toxins A and B (TcdA and TcdB). Objective Evaluation of positive Predictive Value of Clostridium difficile test is a rapid membrane enzyme immunoassay for the simultaneous detection of Clostridium difficile glutamate dehydrogenase antigen and toxins A and B. CONCLUSIONS Results shown Stool Samples correctly identifies 7.045% of cases which were true positive for Clostridium difficile. Infectious Disease Research Laboratory.( IDRL ) 1Dept.
