Let’s talk about S_ X • One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. 2 Sam 11:2 • Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. 2 Sam 11:4 • For the director of music. A psalm of David….after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba. Psalm 51
12And David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel. 13After he had left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him. 2 Sam 5:12-13 14When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you…be sure to appoint over you the king the Lord your God chooses…17He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. Deut 14-17
This king who took another mans wife already had a harem full of women. The simple fact is that the passion of sex is not satisfied by a full harem of women; it is increased. Having many women does not reduce a man’s libido, it excites it, it stimulates it. David, being a man with a strong sexual appetite, mistakenly thought, To satisfy it, I will have more women. Thus, when he became king, he added to the harem, but his drive only increased. One of the lies of our secular society is that if you just satisfy this drive, then it’ll be abated. The disease of sin: when we pursue temporal satisfaction over the provisions of God. Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. 2 Sam 12:7-8

When wedo not lament, it becomes easier to fill that void by sinning. 11In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. One sin leads to another. • One night fling. • Pin pregnancy falsely on Uriah. • Order Uriah’s murder to cover up. • Other soldiers become collateral damage. • Loses trust of his commander, palace servants, etc.
Sin deceives the heart. David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this deserves to die! He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.” Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man!” 2 Sam 12:5-7a

2 Sam 11:27- But the thing David had done displeased the Lord. • 2 Sam 12:1a- The Lord sent Nathan to David.
God speaks through people he sends to us. We just don’t like to listen.
