Employees’ empowerment • IBM employees support organizations in the communities in which they live and work • IBM supports employees who volunteer their personal time to community projects
Volunteering activities empower employees by • Making them feel better and prouder of their working place • Giving them the opportunity to express themselves in other areas
Community Relations • Short-term projects • focused endeavors of individual and anonymous contribution to lower income families • Long-term projects • Use our most valuable resources – our researchers, staff, and facilities – to offer advanced opportunities in education
University of Haifa • 3rd year of activity • Dynamic program to suit the needs of the individual students • Employees are coaching students living in the university dormitories
2009 e- Week events • Encourage school students to pursue studies in technology and science • 1,252 of middle school students heard presentations by IBM scientists about the engineering profession • In several large-scale events on IBM premises • 87 volunteers participated in the program
Youth education The main focus of our long-term community relations effort is our youth education project (2003-2009)
Example I – “Lady Tech” A new program that partners college students from Israel’s Holon Institute of Technology with local high school girls
Example II - E.X.I.T.Esummer camp • The EXITE (EXploring Interests in Technology • and Engineering) camps are week-long, summer • day camps for girls • Showcase career opportunities in technology and engineering • Introduce to female role models • Give hands-on experiences in technical activities that are fun, challenging and educational • Encourage diversity
