Allosteric Inhibitors- a substrate that binds to a site OTHER than the active site, causing the enzyme to change shape and causing the active site to no longer function as the active site

In the cell, activators and inhibitors dissociate when at low concentrations. The enzyme can then oscillate again.

  5. Example in the body: • ATP works as a noncompetitive inhibitor, as it will bind allosterically to catabolic enzymes and lower their affinities for substrate. • ADP works as an activator with the same exact enzymes, causing them to generate more ATP as necessary. In this instance, ATP works as the allosteric inhibitor.
