  1. What is an input device? • The input device is used to enter data and give instruction to the computer. e.gKeyboard, Mouse, Scanner, Joystick, Web camera, Microphone, Barcode Reader.

  2. What is an output device? • A device that allows the user to see the information generated by computer is called an Output device. e.g monitor, printer, speaker.

  3. Name the different parts of CPU. • The different parts of CPU are • (1) ALU (Arithmetic and logic unit) • (2) CU (Control unit) • (3) Memory unit

  4. What is the use of a scanner? • A scanner allows you to capture documents that are printed on paper and turn into digital format to be viewed on a computer.

  5. What is barcode reader? • The black and white parallel lines on a product contains coded information about the product and its price. This is read by a barcode reader.

  6. What is the use of speakers in a computer system? • The recorded sound in the computer can be played back through the speakers.

  7. Name the following: • 1) A person who uses a computer. • Ans: User • (2) A unit of CPU where arithmetic and logical operations are done. • Ans: ALU (Arithmetic and logic unit) • (3) An exclusive set of keys for numbers and arithmetic operations • Ans: Numeric key pad. • (4) The output device that look like a TV screen. • Ans: Monitor

  8. Name the following: • (1) Storage devices. • Ans: Hard disk, Pen drive, Floppy disk, compact disk (CD) (2)Input devices Ans: Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, Joystick, Web camera, Microphone, Barcode Reader. 9. What use the function of the following keys: • (1) Spacebar • Ans: It is used to insert blank space between any two characters or words. • (2) Enter Key • Ans: The enter key is used to move the cursor to the next line. It is also used to tell the computer to carry out the typed instruction. • (3) Arrow keys • Ans: The four arrow or cursor keys can be pressed to move the cursor in looking their directions. • (4) Escape key • Ans: It is used to tell the computer to abort or stop processing an instruction.

  10. Fill in the blanks: • (1)Scanner is an _______ device. • (2) The ______unit regulates and manages the whole computer system. • (3) The coded black and white parallel lines on a product label is read by ______ reader and sent to the computer. • (4) Hard disk is a ________ memory. • (5) To rapidly click the left mouse button twice is called ________.

  11. Fill in the blanks: • Scanner is an input device. • (2) The controlunit regulates and manages the whole computer system. • (3) The coded black and white parallel lines on a product label is read by barcode reader and sent to the computer. • (4) Hard disk is a secondary memory. • (5) To rapidly click the left mouse button twice is called double click.

  12. Arrange the following device as input or output: • (a) mouse (b)monitor (c)printer (d)keyboard (e)speaker (f)scanner (g)microphone

  13. Distinguish between: • Primary memory and secondary memory

  14. Answer in briefly: • (1) What is a computer? • Ans: computer is an electronic machine. It can store a large amount of data in its memory. It can process the same data to give a desired output according to the instruction we give. Computer increases the efficiency and productivity of any organization.

  15. Answer in briefly: Write the limitation s of a computer. Ans: Limitation of a computer: (1) A computer lacks intelligence and works only on instructions. (2) A computer has no feeling or emotion and hence cannot be creative like human.
