  2. Civil War Date • The civil war started in April of 1861 and ended in April of 1865.

  3. States of the Union Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachucets, New Hampshire, Vermont,and Maine.

  4. Confederate States Texas, Arkansas, Louisianna, Mississippi, Tennesee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia

  5. Border States • Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia

  6. Computer Accuracy • Book: 180, 000 black soldiers served in the Union army • Computer: 179,000 black soldiers served in the union army

  7. Alliances formed in the Civil War • The alliances formed were the French and the British.

  10. Facts about one of the leaders:John Brown • Born in Torrington, Connecticut • Married Dianthe Lusk in 1826 • Met Fredrick Douglass in 1847 • He followed his sons tom Kansas in 1855 • Marries Mary Anne Day in 1833

  11. Jefferson Davis • Jefferson Davis was born on June 3, 1808 • Was the “President” of the Confederacy • He, like Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky • He served in the Congress as well as the military • He eventually died in 1889

  13. Fort Sumter • It was in 1861 • The Confederates won this battle. • No casualties but one artillerist killed • In Charleston County, South Carolina

  14. Battle of Bull Run • Happened in 1861 • Fairfax County and Prince William County • The day was July 21, 1861 • The Confederates won this battle!

  15. Battle Gettysburg • The battle went on for 3 days July 1-3 1863 • Causalities Union(23,000) Confederate (28,000) • The Union won this battle. • This battle was in Adams county, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

  16. Battle of Fort Fisher • Located in New Hanover County, Wilmington, North Carolina. • The battle was on January 13-15, 1865. For 3 days. • Total people killed, injured or MIA were 2,000 between The Union and The Confederacy • The Union won this battle.

  17. Battle of Appomattox Courthouse • Located in Appomattox County in Virginia. • The battle was on April 9, 1865 • Total casualties: 700 • This was a Union victory

  18. Weapons People in the civil war used the following: • The Napolean- smooth bore, muzzle loading cannon. • Small arms such as muskets, carbines, short-barrelled rifles, and handguns. • Minnie ball- lead bullet for guns • Edged Weapons- swords, sabers, bowie knifes and cutlasses.

  19. Transportation Transportation for the civil war included: • Horseback • Railroads • By foot • Steamboats

  20. Affecting America’s Future • Eventually slavery became illegal • The United States is a whole country with the north and south included • There is no more states’ right to secede • It encouraged groups of people to speak out against societal issues • A negative effect is that it divided the north and south, even today. There is still a little bit of hostility. ie: yankeeor rednecks

  21. Who won the war? The Union was victorious!
