  10. External Support: March • Media News Group • Management changes = uncertainty • Has been slow link in the past • York Newspaper Company • Palmer Brown – gone • Jen Ilgenfritz – gone • Keith Hartman remains as only web support person at YNC, and his responsibilities are split between YD, YDR, FlipSide, Evening Sun, and Public Opinion • YNC is actively recruiting

  11. What’s Ongoing? • E-Dispatches – Subscription based e-newsletter • Morning – First Dispatch • Noon Hour – Dispatch Now • 2008 Plan – Breaking News (Instant Dispatch) Very slow to catch on so far. Public is very concerned about giving out e-mail addresses due to volume of e-mail spam.

  12. What’s Ongoing? • VideoYork.com • Brand new complete site and brand • YouTube for York • Intended to be a place for Yorkers and the Dispatch photo staff to share and discuss their videos This is doing very well in terms of drawing traffic, but has not caught on with user contributions.

  13. What’s Ongoing? • Topix • Love it/Hate it • Increases readers and comments • Allows anonymous commenting • Requires a watchful eye • MNG partnership, so is the only “supported” commenting system

  14. What’s Ongoing? • YorkWeekend.com • April 2008- 11,080 Page Views • September 2008 – 44,123 Page Views • Continuing project to enhance and improve • Integrated with Zvents.com (MNG partnership)

What’s Ongoing? • BlogZone – page redesign, header changes • Consistency with remainder of site • Incorporate coding to be included in new YNC stats • Correct phantom characters appearing in titles • Add keywords to blog headers for search engine placement/traffic driving • Experiment with external blog providers (Rev. Rumblings)

  16. What’s New? • Junior Dispatch (www.juniordispatch.com) • Completely new site • Replaces old JD site online, and weekly print insert • Just launched, with photo and video integration • Shares source code with YorkWeekend.com for easier maintenance.
