  1. TeamBuilding In sixty seconds …

  2. Stages of Development Belbin described teams as going through five stages … • Forming • Storming • Norming • Performing • Adjourning What stage is your team in?

  3. The sum is greater than the parts Two people can lift a piano. But one person can't lift half a piano. • Help people in your team when you are in a position of strength • Ask for help from your team when you are in a position of weakness. • A team of people can punch way above their collective weight.

  4. Team essentials … Your team must have the following otherwise it will fail: • A clear goal and structure. Your team goal must be SMART, understood and agreed with all members. • Unified commitment and attitude. Team members need to direct their efforts towards team not personal goals. • High standards. Team members must be competent and know what is expected of them individually and collectively. • Support and encouragement. Essential to motivate your team and the individuals in it. • Leadership. Your team must have a leader who can see the end goal and help lead the team to achieving it.

  5. Enjoy it! Try to make (team)work is more fun than fun! • Celebrate team successes publicly. Buy everyone the same t-shirt or hat. Put team member names in a draw for prizes. You are limited in teamwork only by your imagination! • Hold meetings to review projects and progress, to obtain broad input, and to co-ordinate shared work processes. • Use ice breakers and teamwork exercises at meetings. Take turns to bring a “fun” ice breaker to the meeting, sweets for sharing, etc. Get colleagues to know each other better. • Build fun and shared occasions into the agenda. Organise out-of-work hours events, a group lunch at a local pub or plan an event which takes groups of people out of their comfort zone.
