  5. Three questions: • When was RIT founded? • When did RIT move its campus to Henrietta? • How many students enrolled at RIT in Sept. 2009 Directions • Take a moment and introduce yourself to two people sitting nearby. • Jot down your group’s answer on a piece of paper.

  6. When was RIT founded? ImagineRIT • RIT traces its roots back to 1829, as the Rochester Athenaeum, a reading society.  • The Athenaeum merged with the Rochester Mechanics Institute (founded 1885) in 1891. • Existed to train a skilled workforce for Rochester's industries such as Kodak, Bausch & Lomb, Xerox, etc. • Renamed the Rochester Institute of Technology in the 1940s.

  7. When did RIT move to Henrietta? Imagine the leadership team making these decisions in those times. ImagineRIT 1961 • Decision to move 1966 • RIT chosen for site of National Technical Institute for the Deaf 1968 • RIT moves to Henrietta campus • First freshman class enters NTID
