  2. What is the purpose of all flowers? • To allow plants to reproduce and continue their existence • Contain both male and female parts to aid in reproduction

  3. What are all the parts of a flower? • 1. Pistil – female part of flower • Located on its tip is the stigma • Located below the stigma is the style • Located at the base of the style is the ovary that houses the eggs of the plant

  4. So what are the male parts of the flower? • 2. Stamen – male part of the flower that is responsible for producing the sperm of the plant • At the end of the stamen are anthers that contain pollen grains • These pollen grains produce the sperm of the flower

  5. How do plants pass genetic material? • To make new plants, genetic information must go from anther to pistil • Once it reaches the pistil a pollen grain goes down a long tube in the pistil to reach the ovule of the plant • Once it is fertilized the ovule forms a seed • Ovary forms the fruit of the plant
