Lo spettrometro a muoni di ATLAS display del barrel 1700 alignable detector stations, ~1200 MDT chambers consisting of two arrays of staggered aluminium drift tubes, 1-6 m long, 3 cm diameter, 400 mm thin Al wall, ~1000 RPC units ~1500 TGC units 32 CSC chambers complex inert materials (barrel toroid coils, ec toroids, feet, support structures, shielding materials, calorimeter saddle)

Nuova versione della Geometria • Il confronto con i dati (cosmici) forza a migliorare il realismo della descrizione della geometria • ATLAS-GEO-00-00-00 • Moving from Layout R in tech. drawings to the MS layout as installed (amdb version R03) • Active Geometry: • MDT HV-RO side checked and fixed for a few chambers • station positions fixed for a few stations • RPC layout in Small Sectors + RPC positioning in the stations with single RPC units + RPC chambers with cutouts + RPC special chambers heavily revisited • CSC position fixed (layer 2 installed not layer 1) • Dead Matter: • In the XML description: fixes to MDT Big Wheel, Calorimeter Saddle, TGC support; pos. of ID Patch Panels PP2; Muon Barrel + sect. 13) Access Platforms, Feet Struts, pos., BOL Support, Tie road, ECT cryostat fix • Status of R03: ready for production / currently in validation

Riorganizzazione del decoding dei dati Il caso RPC: struttura dei dati online molto diversa dalla struttura dei dati offline • h.w. duplicated hits due to cabling overlap • s.w. duplicated hits due to wired-or and logical-or • 3 types of trigger hits in the readout Al Filtro (ultimo passo del trigger di alto livello), l’algoritmo di muon-identification deve accedere solo ad una frazione dei dati (nella regione di interesse) per ridurre il tempo richiesto per la decodifica dei dati e minimizzare la combinatoria nel track finding
