  2. My Education/Credentials Multiple Subject Credential Single Subject Math Credential Currently working on Masters in Educational Technology. I have been teaching for 16+ years in elementary, middle school and high school; private and public

  3. My Family • Married to a retired 30-year Marine, MGySgt Jarvie • We have 3 children and 1 Grandson • Christopher, a Captain in the USAF, currently stationed in Colorado • Brittni, BS in Business Finance, works for The Salvation Army in Escondido • Alissa, a massage therapist, living in the Sacramento area • My grandson is Zephaniah, 3 years old

  4. Recommended Supplies Graphing notebook (composition, spiral or binder with graph paper) Pencils/erasers Red pens (for correcting) Highlighter, colored pencils or markers Calculator(I took all classes to the library to check one out) Compass Ruler (or just any straight edge)

  5. How are grades computed? • A 90%-100% • B 80% - 89% • C 70% - 79% • D 60% - 69% • F < 60% • Assessments: 90% • Tests 70% • Quizzes 20% • Student Work: 10% • Participation • Notes • Assignments (Ready, Set, Go! & Tasks) • Checkpoints (Homework quizzes) • TTM (Requirement: 1 passed lesson per week)

  6. How do I know my child’s grade in your class? http://abi.murrieta.k12.ca.us/ Student work and assessments are posted on Aeries (MVUSD ABI). Please check there often as I update it frequently If there is a blank, your child can still make this up All missing assignments will be given 40% whether your student turned it in or not. There is no late work accepted except for excused absences (1 absence = 1 day)

  7. Where do I go to find assignments? There should not be a lot of assignments to be done at home. There will be nights where your child has no homework. All assignments are posted on the class calendar on the school’s website: https://www.murrieta.k12.ca.us/Page/13187

  8. Assignments Is late work accepted? No! If a child does not turn in assignments by due date, they will automatically receive 40%. Exception: if it is due to an EXCUSED absence, then your child will be given one day extra for each day he/she missed class. Absences due to sports/school activities are due that day. Where are the assignments posted? • All assignments can be found in the classroom on the wall. Current assignments are on the whiteboard while past assignments are on a large calendar hung under “assignments”. • They are also posted on the class calendar on the school’s website: • https://www.murrieta.k12.ca.us/Page/13187

  9. Assignments & Checkpoints Checkpoints (100 points) A checkpoint is a quick check to determine what students have learned; it is taken in class and treated like a quiz. Graded on accuracy. If the student is absent (excused) and has missed a checkpoint, he/she will not be taking it. Instead, his/her overall test score for that current module will be used as a substitute. Assignments (RSGs) • An assignment is given just about every class; we will be moving at approximately 1 lesson per day of class, but your student should be able to finish much of it in class. • Assignments from MVP will be collected at the end of the module as a packet. If no packet is turned in, a score of 40% will be given. • Other assignments/activities will be collected at the end of the period when they are assigned. These also cannot be made up.

  10. Quizzes and Tests • Quizzes: • There are two types of quizzes • In-Class (on paper) • Online (computer-based) • Each quiz is worth 100 points. • Quizzes make up 20% of your child’s grade. Tests: • Each module will have 1 to 2 tests; tests are always announced and posted at least 1 week before administered. • Each test will be divided into standards/skills and each section. • Each section will be worth 100 points • Students will be given retake opportunities for test sections. • Tests make up 70% of your child’s grade.

  11. Think Through Math (TTM)https://lms.thinkthroughmath.com/users/sign_in • Internet based program intended to teach gaps in your child’s learning in math • Students are required to pass approximately 1 lesson per week this year, totaling 4 per month, beginning in September • If student does not have internet or computer at home, student can sign up for Pride Period or do in the library before or after school • Students will be given approximately 25 minutes each week to work on TTM during class. • Students have access to a “live” teacher, even on the weekends. • NOTE: only “passed” lessons will count towards this requirement (not attempted ones)
