Documents on the Forum • All Instructors Guide documents will be stickied on the Teachers Forum on ISGB’s website. • Contact admin@isgb.org and tell Sarah that you attended Instructors Seminar this year. Include your log-in name. • You will receive an email that says you now have access to that part of the Forum!

  5. PREPPING FOR YOUR CLASS • Determine length of class • Curriculum components—Instructors Guide • Practice (if possible) • Find place to teach • Market your class

  6. LENGTH OF CLASS • 3-4 Hour • Time for basics only • Not as much time to practice • 6-8 Hour • More time for basics and practice • Can add some “bells and whistles” • 2 Day • Lots of time for practice, set up, etc.

  7. CLASS DOCUMENTS • Each student receives a two-pocket folder • Includes hard copy excerpts from cd • Includes “eye candy” • Includes info for local bead groups, events and vendors --See following slides--

  11. GETTING STARTED • Greetings, beads, and glass choices • Waivers and class payment • Introductions • Dipping mandrels, cleaning glass –and— • Flip Chart (see next two slides) • 20-25 minutes

  12. Flip Chart—Page 1 Encourage students to just listen; taking notes is not necessary because all the information they need is on the cd in their packet. As you plan your “lecture,” remember that adults like to know why, but don’t overwhelm your students with too much technical information.

  13. Flip Chart – Last Page Adult learners like to know what to expect. Previewing the class sets expectations for both the student and the instructor.

  14. Now onto the good stuff… • Practice with turning on torches • Heat setting the bead release (great practice with torches!) • Demo student’s first round bead • And they’re off!! • See Instructors Guide for more detail

  15. FINDING A PLACE TO TEACH • Have a written proposal (and beads) in hand • Be clear with expectations for yourself and the venue • Call ahead for • Name of contact • Appointment • Community centers • Community colleges • Local school • Local art venue • Other??

  16. MARKETING YOUR CLASS • Demonstrations at local events • Demonstrations for local art clubs and other social clubs • Fliers (see next slide) • Ads • Create a student email/mail list • Other??
