  1. “Moses: A Great Leader” Exodus 3:1-10

  2. Moses: A Great Leader • Moses serves as one of the greatest examples of leadership in the Bible. • What qualities made him so capable? How can we imitate his example?

  3. Leaders Must Be Humble • The meekest man on the face of the earth (Num 12:3) • His reluctance to go to Egypt (Ex 3:11, 13; 4:1, 10, 13) • Many times Moses refuses to defend himself (Num 12:1-10, 14:3-6, 16:3-5)

  4. Leaders Must Be Uncompromising • Moses was a great leader because he was a great follower of God’s commands (Ex 10:24-26, 5:3, 3:8) • This quality is necessary whether we desire to lead or not… (Galatians 2:14) • “So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.” - Luke 14:33 (NKJV)

  5. Leaders Must Love Others • “You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.” - Leviticus 19:18 (NKJV) • Moses loved others as himself (Ex 32:21-32) • Moses used his position to serve others (Ex 18:13-18) • “And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all." - Mark 9:35 (NKJV) • Poor leadership places the flock in danger

  6. Leaders Need the Support of Others • It is easy to be critical of leaders (5:21, 14:11, 15:23, 16:2, 17:2) • Moses often needed help (Ex 4:11-17, Num 11:28) • “Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.” - Hebrews 13:17 (NKJV)

  7. We Need Leaders • Compare the qualifications of elders with Moses (1Timothy 3:1-7) • “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.” - Acts 20:28 (NKJV) • Are we seeking to qualify ourselves? (Ex 3:11, 13, 4:1, 10, 13)

  8. Reaching These Goals • Leaders must be humble • Leaders must be uncompromising • Leaders must love others • Leaders need the support of others • We NEED leaders!!

  9. Reaching These Goals • To become better leaders… • To enable others in becoming effective leaders… • Submitting to our leaders… • We must have a sincere desire and trust in God’s plan!!!
