Regional Sports Partnerships • To provide a structure for key agencies to work together to deliver LTPD • To clarify roles and responsibilities throughout the LTPD pathway • To provide a means of connecting local and national plans for sport • To coordinate resources that go into sport at a regional level • To provide a structure for improving the delivery of Sport21

  13. Purpose of Academies To provide an opportunity for those with performance potential to access quality sports-specific coaching and support services to enable them to further develop towards National Standards.

  14. “The support services are the icing on the cake – they are sophisticated and make the final 5% difference. In some instances the cake hasn’t yet been properly baked. The athletes are only at 60% of their capacity.” Area manager contract reviews, p.29 “There is a need to support athletes aspiring to AIS programmes without compromising AIS focus” Area Institute of Sport Evaluation 2004, p.25

RJG monitoring report: • Benefits to the players in terms of increased access to coaches within a specific context • Funding not sustainable • No National consistency in terms of ages of application, criteria and delivery mechanisms • Rarely full integration in the planning between LA/SGB/AIS in terms of designing the RJG programme & application • Need for A managed programme for athletes to progress through or be channeled back into sport (rather having acceptance of a high drop-out rate) • Need for a system that has elements that are transferable between sports.
