In this session we will: Look at examples of where digital tools have been used to enhance Learning Activities We will consider: • How does the tool engage learners? • What can be done using ICT that could not be done without it? • How does the tool support knowledge building? Tweet about it! How have you enhanced a lesson by using ICT? #msedu

  4. Windows Live Movie Maker and Photostory Turn photos and video clips into movies and slide shows Add in music, sub-titles, special effects and credits

  5. High School Life Sciences learners made movies using Movie Maker to explain an aspect of HIV/AIDS as an infomercial. Nikkie Wallace – St Cyprians: Western Cape

  7. High School History learners created movies out of still photos that illustrated the effects of various Apartheid laws. Sue Ausmeier – Durban Girls College: KwaZulu-Natal

  8. Autocollage Select a folder of photos, push a button and watch as your images get swirled into a collage.

  11. Songsmith Choose a style from pop, jazz, reggae etc. and a tempo. Sing into the PC microphone and Songsmith will then generate musical accompaniment to match your voice.

  13. Stickysorter Organise your notes or have a brain storm using virtual sticky notes

  14. Flashcards Make your own or use those that are already there. Smart, fun assessment!

  15. Mouse Mischief Download the Multiple-Mouse toolbar for PowerPoint. Make a presentation that includes yes/no, multiple choice or drawings. Connect multiple mouses to one computer. Let learners choose an icon and start the activity. Here learners draw lines on the picture using their mouses. This slide allows learners to each select an answer from the options given.

  16. Activity: Pair Discussion: 5 minutes Which digital tools have you used in your classroom – how do you think the tool enhanced the lesson? If you have not used any tools yet – which of the tools you saw appeals to you? How do you think you could use it to teach a concept in your subject? What would you be able to do with the technology that you could not do without it? Tweet about it! Which digital tool have you used to enhance a learning activity? #msedu
