It’s Important | Onemlidir  The census is a count of everyone living in the United States every 10 years. •  Distribute Congressional seats to states •  Distribute $400 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year •  Make decisions about what community services to provide: •  hospital, education – new schools, transportation, senior welfare, children service and many other public services.

It’s Safe | Guvenlidir  Federal law protects the personal information you share during the census. • Title of 13 of the U.S. Code safeguards an individual’s privacy • Individual records from the decennial census are confidential for 72 years, by law (Title 44, U.S. Code) •  All employees must swear-in to protect •  Disclosing confidential census information is a felony. • ▸5 years imprisonment &/or a fine up to $250,000

Community CCC Program  Community CCC •  A group of community leaders in hard to enumerate or traditionally undercounted rural and urban communities that assemble for the SOLE PURPOSE of creating a census awareness campaign to raise census awareness and encourage census participation among residents in specific census tracts, community based areas, or populations.

Complete Count Committee (CCC)  Volunteer communities established by local or tribal government  Give true expression to “It’s in Our Hands” campaign theme Local Media Faith-Based Organizations Community Organizations CCC Education Business Government Agencies  Urge community participation in Census  Conduct targeted outreach

Community CCC Program  Why form a Community CCC •  To place greater emphasis on the importance of the census to residents in targeted areas or populations •  To create a census awareness campaign focused on residents in specific hard to count areas •  To empower community leaders to take ownership of the census, thus increasing the mail response rate among specific populations and greatly reducing the differential understand

Be Counted / Questionnaire Assistance Programs Be Counted (BC) Sites: Locations where people go to get a blank questionnaire if they feel they were missed Nationwide 40,000 BC sites & 30,000 QAC in community locations Paid Questionnaire Assistance Center Representatives Questionnaire Assistance Centers (QAC): Locations where people receive help completing their questionnaires BC sites will only have questionnaires & will not be staffed Mid-March and April 2010

  23. 2010 Census Timeline ► Spring 2009 Census employees go door-to-door to update address list nationwide ►Fall 2009Recruitment begins for Census takers needed for peak workload in 2010 ► Feb - Mar 2010 Census Questionnaires are mailed or delivered to households ► April 1, 2010 Census Day ► Apr - Jul 2010 Census takers visit households that did not return questionnaire by mail ► Dec 2010 By law, Census Bureau delivers population count to President for apportionment. ► Mar 2011 By law, Census Bureau completes delivery of redistricting data to states.
