  2. GENERAL As political turmoil escalated and caused severe unrest in Egypt, the Malaysia Government decided to pull out thousands of Malaysia residents especially the students from riot torn Egypt to a safer place elsewhere before returning to Malaysia

  3. TASK TO RMAF Royal Malaysia Air Force (RMAF) was directed to deploy C 130 to Middle East with immediate effect The operation is code-named OP PIRAMID RMAF Deployed 3 X C-130H

  17. SUPPORT BY ROYAL SAUDI AIR FORCE (RSAF) • No 4 Sqn of RSAF has rendered security and technical support throughtout the mission • 2 x armed security personnel attached to the aircraft round the clock • 1 x liaison officer to address all the issues

OP SUPPORT MARKAS OPERASI UDARA CEKAL PERKASA • Log support for Aircraft returning to Malaysia has been arranged (proposed route :Jeddah-Abu Dhabi-Male-Subang) • Through MAS contract. • Fuel, g/handling, in-flight ration and parking. • Accommodation and transportation ( on s/by) • for crew if aircraft need night stop. • Proposed flight back not to carry students. • (problem in case aircraft need night stop) • . 18

Alternative acti • USD40,000 advance by Consulate office collected by Imprest holder. Will be reconciled with the imprest fund. • 3 x brake unit C130 and 7 x GIRN received by Mission Commander. 19

  23. SORTIE PLANNING • 3 waves of sorties with 3 aircraft everyday • All aircraft were set in flat floor configuration to cater for average of 200 passengers each aircraft • The flight schedules were disseminated to representative of Malaysia Embassy in Cairo and Alexandria

  36. CONCLUSION • RMAF took the challenge to assist the government in their herculean efford to evacuate Malaysia residence from riot torn Egypt. The adage “When the going gets tough, the tough get going”, hold true for the RMAF crew. • A total of 18 sorties were carried out and a total of 3,482 (2,102 from Cairo and 1,380 from Alexandria) • The mission was completed in about 72 hours with rate of 6 sorties per day.
