Blood Donor Recruitment • Encouraging Singaporeans to be blood donors to help those in need through. • Began blood collection programme in March 1984 as Red Cross Blood Centre. • Evolved into a fully mobile programme in 1995 • Today focuses primarily • Recruitment of blood donors. • Retention of blood donor • increase public awareness

  3. First Aid Public Duty & Disaster Preparedness • First Aid coverage at community and national events by the Adult Volunteer Division. • over 300 public events a year • SRCS works closely with the Singapore Civil Defence Force and participates in their National Emergency exercises

International services International relief Recent efforts • typhoon in Philippines (1990, 1995), • fire in Myanmar (1990), • cyclone in Bangladesh (1991), • severe famine in North Korea (1997) • economic crisis in Indonesia (1997, 1998), • flood victims in China (1998) • crisis in the Balkans (1999).

International services Joint Projects with Sister Societies • Operasi Bhakti. - Batam Red Cross Chapter • 3 projects have been undertaken since 1995 to provide health and medical relief and medical consultations to the islanders living in the Riau Islands in Indonesia. • Operation Saonum. - Lao Red Cross • manpower assistance in the development of a water system to provide fresh water to a remote village in Laos.

International services • International Humanitarian Law (IHL) • Raising public awareness about IHL and its underlying principles and the need for an understanding of IHL, even in times of peace. • Tracing Services. • Tracing of Indo-Chinese refugees and other displaced families from countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Myanmar and China and continues in maintaining this capability.

  7. Non-emergency Ambulance service • To provide non-emergency transportation for • Admission or discharged from hospitals • Require to visit hospitals for regular check-ups. • Service hits 5,000 trips annually. • SRCS heavily subsidises the cost of needy patients who are unable to afford payment for the service. • Participating organisation of the CISCO Centralised Despatch Scheme through Tel : 1777

Red Cross Home • Situated at Elizabeth Drive • Provides • long-term residential services • short-term respite care • Sixty severely disabled residents between the age of 10 - 40 years of age. • Operating Expenditure of over $600,000 annually. • The residents pay a monthly fee according to the family's income and ability.

  9. Red Cross Hostel • 3-room HDB flats at Blk 191 Boon Lay Drive • Accommodation and transportation for working disabled adults at the Red Cross Hostel for Handicapped Workers. • Hostel has facilities which are adapted to the needs of disabled people. • The provision of this service encourages the physically disabled to be economically independent citizens.

  10. Red Cross Training Centre • Bringing first aid into every home • At least one member of every household in Singapore will be trained and certified in first aid • Courses Conducted • Standard First Aid • Refresher First Aid • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) • 4,000 individuals are trained annually.

  11. Red Cross Youth • Organising and conducting Uniformed Group activities for Youth to encourage • leadership skills • voluntary services.
