  1. How do we find the area BETWEEN polar curves?March 31, 2011 Take out: HW, pencil HW:Polar quiz Monday Do Now: • Take out class work from yesterday to examine the cardiod/circle problem. Eliza claims: Peter claims: Which do you agree with & why? Do you have another way? Objectives: • Find the area between polar curves. Agenda: • Do Now (10) • Volunteer for HW…(5) • Find area between curves (20) • HW review polar HW (15)

  2. Kick it up a notch…. • Use a table of values to graph r = 4 +4cos θ and r = 10cosθ on the same set of axes. (you may CHECK your graph with your calculator.) • Shade the region INSIDE the circle, but OUTSIDE the cardiod. • Set up an integral that will find the shaded area in #2. • Use your calculator to solve #3.

  3. Quiz Monday… You are expected to… • Graph polar points and equations by hand. • Name polar points in multiple ways by change angles and signs of the magnitude. • Convert between cartesian coordinates and polar coordinates. • Convert between polar equations and cartesian equations. • Find the area of a polar curve. • Find where two polar curves intersect. • Find the area in between two polar curves. • Pre-requisite: evaluate sin/cos on unit circle!
