  2. Identify the Problem • What/how question (cause & effect) must be specific • contains two variables

  3. Background Information • what do we already know from previous research? • Includes bibliography

  4. Hypothesis • definition: educated guess • If…. (experimental procedure) Then (prediction)…… format

  5. Experimentation • characteristics: • repeatable by others controlled: has a control group and one or more experimental groups

  6. Data Collection • Types: • quantitative: measurements units given in metrics in table form • qualitative: observations written in narrative form or sketches • graphs: physical representation of quantitative data

  7. Conclusion • must include: • if the hypothesis is supported or rejected • summary paragraph of the lab

  8. Publish • get findings out to the scientific community in journals

  9. Nobel Prize • lecture circuit
