  1. End-Time PredictionsDo We Know When the World Will End?

  2. End-Time Predictions • Yes, Jesus is coming again (Acts 1:11; 1 Thess. 4:16; Heb. 9:28; 1 Jn. 3:2)! • Yes, the world as we know it will come to an end (2 Pet. 3:7,10; Rev. 21:1)! • But, do we know when the Lord will come and the world will end? Can we predict that time?

  3. End-Time Predictions • There has been a renewed interest in the end of the world with the recent movie “2012” • Since the Mayan calendar does not have a date past 2012, it has been assumed by some that the world will come to an end at that time • Many false predictions and prophecies have been made down through time (Deut. 18:22)

  4. End-Time Predictions The 2012 phenomenon comprises a range of eschatological beliefs and proposals, which posit that cataclysmic or transformative events will occur on or around December 21 in the year 2012,[1][2] which is said to be the end-date of a 5,125-year-long Mayan Long Count calendar. These beliefs may derive in part from archaeoastronomical speculation,[3] alternative interpretations of mythology,[4]numerological constructions, or alleged prophecies from extraterrestrial beings.[5]

  5. End-Time Predictions According to the Popol Vuh, a book compiling details of creation accounts known to the K'iche' Maya of the Colonial-era highlands, we are living in the fourth world.[12] The Popol Vuh describes the first three creations that the gods failed in making and the creation of the successful fourth world where men were placed. In the Maya Long Count, the previous creation ended at the start of a 14th b'ak'tun. The previous creation ended on a long count of 12.19.19.17.19. Another 12.19.19.17.19 will occur on December 20, 2012, followed by the start of the fourteenth b'ak'tun, 13.0.0.0.0, on December 21, 2012.[13] There is only one reference to the current creation's 13th b'ak'tun in the fragmentary Mayan corpus: Tortuguero Monument 6, part of a ruler's inscription.
