About Road Safety GB Background: Road Safety GB Road Safety GB is a national organisation that supports its corporate and individual members to fulfil their statutory duty to reduce road deaths and injuries through education, training and publicity. Corporate Members: Local Highway Authorities Individual Members: Private/Public Sector individual (Academy)

About Road Safety GB Background: Road Safety GB In existence since late 70’s as: CSS; AMDE; AMDERSOG; LARSOA; RSGB (2009) 160+ Corporate Members 12 Regional Groups Managed by ‘volunteers’ & funded by annual subscriptions Team of Specialists and Advisers Recently merged with IRSO to form the RSGB Academy 400+ Individual Academy Members Have recently become a CLG with Charitable status Applied for BTEC accreditation

About Road Safety GB Our objectives as an organisation are: To enable and support delivery of road safety casualty prevention services to the highest standards throughout the United Kingdom to reduce road casualties. To deliver projects and programmes that improve community understanding of road safety issues and promote the education, health and well-being of all road users in the United Kingdom. To support Local Highway Authorities, their partners, other agencies and individuals, in maximising their potential to reduce and prevent road casualties and improve health and well being.

About Road Safety GB This is achieved through: establishing standards of professional competence in road safety and ensure training and development programmes exist to enable practitioners to achieve these standards; improving the understanding of road safety issues and interventions by promoting discussion and ensuring access to information; seeking support for, and fostering a collaborative approach to delivery of road safety within and beyond the membership; and acting as a voice for the road safety profession in all appropriate arenas.

Key areas of activity • To date we have 206 confirmed delegates • 23 confirmed exhibitors • We only have 4 rooms left at the Majestic • We have secured a second hotel with a further 15 rooms • We can take a maximum of 280 delegates (including day delegates) • DD Rate of £195 + VAT for both days or £145 + VAT for one day • Full rate £395 + VAT for full conference including all refreshments, conference dinner and entertainment, accommodation The National Road Safety Conference 2013 2013 conference - Harrogate, 13 -14 November

Key areas of activity • Background • Officially merged with IRSO on 5th August 2013 • • The Academy and its objectives are endorsed by Stephen Hammond MP, Under Secretary of State for Road Safety • To provide the profession with a nationally recognised academic framework for training and qualifications • Set the standards for road safety delivery ensuring consistency across the UK • Provide a full range of professional training courses from Foundation to advanced HND & MSc in Road Safety Studies • BTEC Accreditation is on the near horizon • Seeking delivery and funding partners • Individual Membership: £35 +vat per annum Road Safety GB Academy

Key areas of activity Road Safety GB Academy What will the Academy deliver? • Foundation Course for road safety practitioners • Modular Courses to attain HND or equivalent in Accident and Safety Management Support for Msc in Road Safety Studies Bespoke courses for local authorities/private sector industry Coaching Skills for ADI’s

Key areas of activity Road Safety GB Academy • Ultimate goal is to ensure that all road safety practitioners are suitably qualified to deliver professional road safety education and training at the right level to the right audience Recipients such as schools, colleges and individuals are informed of and understand what they should expect from a qualified/accredited road safety professional

Road Safety GB – The Future • Move from volunteer to paid staff • Consider a wider membership base • Forge stronger links with universities and colleges • Seek closer relationships with the private sector • Widen our range of courses to suit all practitioners • Provide ‘off the shelf’ training resources for members • Provide other services such as policy development and professional advice • and more…….?

The organisation has changed significantly during the last 4 years and is continuing to make good progress • A leading organisation for road safety news, information and knowledge • Aspire to lead on training and qualifications and have support from DfT to build a framework and set standards for the profession • Committed to supporting road safety teams & DfT in challenging times to deliver a casualty reduction programme based on behavioural change, that is sustainable in the future • We look forward to working with professionals • from all areas of road safety delivery Summary
