Tenses !!!. What is “Past Simple”?. We use past simple to talk about actions and habits which we already completed in the past. Subject (the person or thing doing the action) + Verb( ed ) It (the weather) rained very heavily during the last rainy season .

  2. Whatis “Past Simple”? • We use past simple to talk about actions and habits which we already completed in the past. Subject(the person or thing doing the action) + Verb(ed) It (the weather) rained very heavily during the last rainy season. • You might see these words in the past simple tense: - yesterday - last year/last month/last night - three weeks ago - for 6 weeks

  3. Examples of Past Simple • I lived in London two years ago. (live=lived) • The students walked to school. (walk=walked) • I ate bananas yesterday. (eat=ate) • Did they dance last night? (do=did)

  4. Past continuous • Used to describe past actions which lasted for a period of time. • FORM [was/were + verb + -ing ] • Examples: • We were studying when she called. • Were you studying when she called? • I was watching TV when she called.

  5. Positive Was/ Were Negative

  6. Present Simple • Used to talk about a habit or a behavior • FORM [Subject + VERB] if its ‘he’, ‘she’ or ‘it’ add an extra ‘s’ to the verb.  • Examples: • {I, you, we, they} like chocolate. • {He, she, it} likes chocolate. • {I, you, we, they} do not like coffee. • {He, she, it} does not like coffee.

  7. What is “Present continuous”? • We use present continuous to show that something is happening now, at this very moment. Also it can show something that is not happening now. • Form: Subject + (is/am/are) + Verb-ing You need to remember this !!!!

  8. Examples of Present continuous • I am studying to become a doctor.(study=studying) • He is not reading a book.(read=reading) • She is meeting some friends after work.(meet=meeting) • Aren’t they coming with us tonight? (come=coming) • They are eating pizza.(eat=eating)
