Executive Summary State Mandated Testing • English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC) • Physical Fitness Test (PFT) – Grades 5, 7, and 9 • CAASPP/SBAC: Math and ELA – Grades 3-8, and 11 • California Science Test (CAST) – Grades 5, 8, 11 or 12 District Assessments • English Language Arts curriculum embedded assessment – Grades K-12 • Fluency – Grades 1 - 6 • Math curriculum embedded assessments – Grades K-12 Teacher Observation Checklist • English Language Development – Grades K-6 DIBELS Assessment • Title I sites only – Grades K-2 Reading Inventory (RI) • READ 180 Classes – not required to give ELA Assessments
State Mandated Testing Details English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC): • Initial – within the first 30 days of the school year, and within 30 days of any new student enrollment in CA, based on their initial Home Language Survey Summative – February and early March • Physical Fitness Test (PFT): February through mid-May (Grades 5, 7 and 9) • CAASPP/SBAC: Math and ELA – 2nd week in April through mid-May, with sites choosing a 3 week window (Grades 3-8 and 11) • California Science Test (CAST) – included in SBAC window (Grades 5, 8 and 11 or 12)
District Assessments Details English Language Arts • Grades K-6: One assessment per unit • Grades 7-12: One assessment per unit, and one writing assessment in quarters 2 and 3 English Language Development • Grades K-6: Two required teacher observations per unit (not an assessment given to students) • Grades 7-12: None Fluency • Grades K, 7-12: None • Grade 1: 1 minute read per student after Units 4 and 6 • Grades 2-6: 1 minute read per student at the beginning of the year, then after Units 2 and 4
District Assessments Details (Cont.) Math • Grades K-5: One assessment per unit • Grades 6-8: One assessment per unit • Grades 9-12: One assessment per semester History/Social Science • No benchmarks, K-8 • Possible semester assessments, 9-12
DIBELS Assessment K-2 DIBELS Assessments are used to measure the acquisition of early literacy skills from kindergarten through second grade. By design, the measures are brief, powerful indicators of foundational early literacy skills that: • Are quick and efficient to administer and score • Serve as universal screening (or benchmark assessment) and progress monitoring measures • Identify students in need of intervention support • Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions • Support the RTI/Multi-tiered model Title I sites only • Beginning of year (BOY) – August • Middle of year (MOY) – January • End of year (EOP) - May
Reading Inventory (RI) READ 180 classes • Three times per year • Not required to give ELA Assessments
