  3. About Me • BA in History from UC Berkeley (2004) • Education Specialist Credential from National Universityand University of Pacific • 12 years Teaching Experience in a variety of alternative educational settings. • I have taught most levels of math in both middle school and high school.

  4. Our Textbook Go Math by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt • Common Core Standards Based • Includes Diagnostic Tests and a great deal of differentiation opportunities • Other materials will be used as well. • Key Curriculum • Kuta Software. • MathXL • IXL

  5. GO Math! • Middle School version of My Math! • Consumable Student Editions • Online, Interactive Textbooks • Can Be Accessed at home • Used as a resource, not THE curriculum.

Historically, students who flourish in math have processing styles aligned with their teachers. • It is my job to provide a multi-sensory approach to learning new concepts to match all my students processing styles. • The goal is to develop a perceptual picture that will stay with them .   7. Teaching Style • Students are successful because they know what they are doing rather than memorize steps. • Incorporates research involving learning and the brain. • Teach to the way adolescents process math, not the way I do. • Encourage problem-solving, collaboration, and meta-cognition.

  8. Homework • Given out Three times a week, on average. • No More than 25 minutes assignments. • Designed for students to regain perceptual picture. • If they are becoming noticeably frustrated, STOP. • Contact me if you would like more.

  10. Assessments • Frequent Assessments, not frequent tests • Formative and summative • Study guides will be provided for summative exams

  11. Google Classroom • Used for class organization • Parent’s will be able to receive summaries of assignments, homework, etc. • Great way to reduce clutter!
