  2. Objective • To inform the audience about the reading in order to make a connection to the Origins of Societies and Culture. • Provide examples in order to guide the audience towards an analytical direction.

Outcome • The audience will obtain an understanding from the reading and the main ideas of module 3 (Societies and Culture). • Once understood, the audience will be able to make connections between the reading and the main ideas of module 3 (Societies and Culture). • The audience will become aware of word usage.

  6. Word Activity • In your groups discuss what terms/word you guys misused in the pastor words you’ve heard kids misuse. • i.e. Hurt – Hurted

  7. Most commonly misused words. • Hurt- Hurted • Eat- Eated • Ate- Ated • Broke- Broked • Etc.

  8. Why do you think parents don’t correct the kids? • Discuss in groups for about 4 minutes.

  10. Reading review Why do you think the poem “The Jellyfish” was inserted in the beginning of the reading? What do you think about this quote or what do you think it means? “Grammatical errors like bleeded and singed have long epitomized the innocence and freshness of children’s minds. The errors are acts of creation, in which children lift a pattern from their brief experience and apply it with impeccable logic to new words unaware, that the adult world treats them as arbitrary exceptions. ”

Analyzing quote • “Charles Darwin captured the interaction when he called human language, “an instinctive tendency to acquire an art.” It certainly is not a true instinct,” he noted, “for every language has to be learned.” Analyze with group and come up with an idea of what he is trying to say.

  14. Our connection • In society people are expected to expand their speaking skills (i.e. vocab.) by using the correct terms. • This happens when one grows up and begins to take part in roles that require them to get a fuller understanding of their communication skills.

  15. Reflective activity Write a paragraph answering the following question: • How do you think this ties in with Societies and Culture? Give examples from experiences or readings.
