  2. Getting Started • The first weeks of school are a big adjustment! • Eat healthy and gets lots of sleep • Support classroom management plan • Encourage your child and help them enjoy this new experience • Contact your child’s teacher with any questions (email is the best way to contact us)

Homework is an important component that reinforces the skills and concepts taught in the classroom. 15 minutes of homework will be assigned nightly. -August - Reading Log -September-May - Calendar of Activities & Reading Log -Family Projects Quarterly * Homework should not be a frustration. Please contact your child’s teacher with any concerns. * While parent help is encouraged, your child should be writing independently and show their work. Homework Policy

Writing • Write first and last names (proper casing) • Emergent Writing - Begins with pictures, scribbles, random letters - Then, writing words as they sound (inventive spelling is part of the process) - Next, write familiar/memorized words (sight words) - Last, write simple sentences to express ideas

Math • Developing a strong foundation • Problem Solving tasks “Digging Deeper” • Hands-On use of manipulatives • Vocabulary • Number Sense • Shapes (2D & 3D) • Writing numbers up to 20 • Decomposing – break numbers apart • Counting to 100 • Addition/Subtraction • Word Problems • Classifying and counting

  10. Field Trips We have many field trips planned but we are in need of Tax Credit money. We are only able to take these trips with your support. Tax Credit, it is a wonderful opportunity to donate money to your child’s classroom as well as get the full amount refunded at tax time. • Married couples can donate up to $400 • Individuals can donate up to $200. • Donations can be made for smaller amounts such as $20, $30, $50. Any amount will be helpful and appreciated. Central Kitchen (free) Fire Station (free & walking) Superstition Farms Childsplay Children’s Museum

Birthday Celebration • Jacobson will no longer be accepting sugary treats for birthdays - Do not send cupcakes, doughnuts or other sugary food items - your items will not be delivered to the classroom or distributed to students. • Student’s name will be heard on the announcements • Students visit the principal’s office and receive a special gift • If students bring in a treat it must be healthy (low-calorie) • Students may bring a small token pencil, eraser, etc. to pass out to classmates • Parents may donate a book to the library in honor of their birthday • Join your child for lunch!
