You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.~Abraham Lincoln Troop 301

  4. Today, we are going to talk about… • The next chapter for Leadership Training • Ongoing Lessons • Talk about Life skills: Loyalty, Conflicts & Confidence Building • Talk about Scout skills: building a plan, holding a meeting & knots • The Marine Corps, French words & a bridge Troop 301

Maybe it is the swords, cool uniforms or funny badges but, the real secret to the Marines success is…Leadership • Crystal clear message on what to do at all times • Faithful to each other. • Confidence through team building • Dependence on everyone doing their job • Cover each others back • Loyal to a cause: the USA & each other • ‘A Few Good Men’: Watch with Dad and discuss who was faithful and why • OOOO-RAAAH Troop 301

  11. When the last guy finishes... • Celebrate the quirks and idiocy cronies • West Point & Annapolis: the lowest GPA graduate gets a dollar from everyone ahead of him. • Strong as the weakest, slowest and smallest link • Cover each other’s back Troop 301

  12. What and who are you loyal to? • It is a life long question…and it evolves • Family • Your ‘brothers’, friends & teammates • Your Ideals • Your profession, vocation & passions • What it takes to be a ‘good man’ • No single right answer but a right approach • What would you do if … Troop 301

Stuff you need to do and know about because you are a guy • Look a man in the eye…even if you dislike him. • Always read a book: Literature, fiction, philosophy, history, etc.. • Over tip your diner waitresses (they work harder) • Learn a trick with a Frisbee or a ball or a deck of cards • Pick up garbage from the street. • Push empty shopping carts back to the corral. • Buy cookies/popcorn/flowers from kids. • Shine your shoes. • Hold doors open. • High five little kids. • Vote. • Play a sport that makes you exert your body. • Learn to play golf or tennis. • Close the lid and flush. • Explain the infield fly rule, an on side kick and zone defense • Remember the Bowline, square knot, clove, two half hitches and whipping Troop 301

  14. 4 by 4 by 10 • The more important something is to you, the higher the board will be. • It is the same board on the ground as it is up there. So, practice when it is low. • You will know who is loyal to you - because you are loyal to them - when you need them. Troop 301
