  1. Sandy Citro CrossCulture Shepherds and Angels

  2. 1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, 2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, 3 it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught. Luke 1:1-4 (ESV)

  3. Special messenger will come From the tribe of Judah Direct descendant of King David Born of a virgin girl Born in Bethlehem Prophecies concerning messiah

  4. 1In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. Luke 2:1-3 (ESV)

  5. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 2:4-7 (ESV)

  6. 8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. Luke 2:8 (ESV)

  7. “The saying of James should come into our mind as we read these words: "Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?" (James 2:5). … The things of God's kingdom are often hidden from the great and noble and revealed to the poor. … The weak of the world are often called before the mighty. The last are often first, and the first last.” J. C. Ryle Why the shepherds?

  8. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,14 “Glory to God in the highest,    and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:10-14 (ESV)

  9. For all people The coming of a Saviour Humble King The good news

  10. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. … Hebrews 4:15 (ESV)

  11. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. 2 Cor 8:9 (ESV)

  12. For all people The coming of a Saviour Humble King Glory to God in the highest 14 “Glory to God in the highest,    and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” The good news

  13. 15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.  Luke 2:15-16 (ESV)

  14. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.  Luke 2:17-19 (ESV)

  15. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. Luke 2:20 (ESV)
